Carter & Co., early 20th century Poole pottery maritime interest tile hand painted with a scallop shell, 15.2cm x 15.2cm.
PROVENANCE: Rescued by the vendor before the demolition of the rear of the Southampton Sailor's Home, Oxford Street, Southampton from a wall that these tiles were commissioned for
More Information
The tiles are a rarely available selection of early Poole pottery with some interesting associated history. There is a strong possibility that the art potter William De Morgan may have collaborated with Owen Carter on these tiles . He worked with Carter and co at that time. Also it is a historical fact that a large number of the Titanic crew stayed in the building the night before their journey
